A sprint-like event where participants team up and create solutions to real-life challenges in an intense period of time. Using creativity, technology and mentoring, the week results in prototypes, fresh new concepts and innovation.
CraftHack is a hybrid hackathon looking for students, fresh graduates or early stage startuppers who are willing to solve our partners’ challenges in 48 hours.
To submit your project create a 2 minute video pitch, upload it to YouTube and link it on the submission form, along with a GitHub repo. The video can have you talking, a live app demo (if you have one), some cool animation, etc... whatever fits best. Please observe these conditions strictly as in other cases we will unfortunately not be able to evaluate your project.
You can find information about this at the Game Rules part.
JunctionApp uses an algorithm named Gavel to judge projects. In this pairwise-comparison-based algorithm participants review each other’s projects. The system incorporates a lot of research on mathematical psychology along with fancy math, resulting in a fair and scalable reviewing system. The user is always given two projects to compare, asked to vote for the better one and compare the newer project to the next one (and so forth). This way, one doesn’t have to take in consideration what the absolute perfect, nor what the absolutely worst project would look like. It’s enough to decide the better one of the two that the system suggests. In addition, participants are naturally curious to understand why a certain project has won. Peer reviewing gives them the possibility to have an overlook of other projects and cast their vote for the winners.
The challenges will be evaluated according to the criterias which will be found in the challenge descriptions. But basically, we are mostly suggest the following aspects to the jury members to follow: prototype, feasibility, impact/value, innovativeness, presentation. Nevertheless, please note that the exact aspects and their percentages will be defined by the partners and can be diverse in the different challenges.
As soon as we have the challenge winners, we will ask them to prepare for the live pitch. They will have to present their ideas in 4 minutes and after each pitch there will be a quick Q&A session. This part aims to provide a closer insight into these solutions. In the interest of having a fair selection, we only take into consideration the registered teams’ and the partners’ votes since they will have the most relevant opinion and insight into the projects.
Yes, if a team selected by the partners as a challenge winner, they will have the chance to also win the grand prize. In addition, since all projects participate in the audience voting, if they collect enough votes from the audience then they can take home the Audience Award too. Overall, it’s more than possible that a team will take home more prizes in the value of up to 5,000 €.
The winner of the Audience Award, as its name suggests, is chosen by the audience. Basically, anyone can vote here, whether it’s the long-unseen cousin from France or the kind neighbor next door. In addition, in the audience voting all the teams participate. So if you want to win this prize, then make sure to spread the word on Sunday and share the hackathon with your friends and family.
Yes, you can enter the hackathon for free.
The event’s language is English from start to finish, including the mentorings and the pitch sessions.
Please contact us at the email address below for any assistance or join our Slack workspace and we will help you out.
The event is organized in Budapest, however there is a possibility to join online. We will use an open Slack workspace as the main platform for communication, Junction App for the hackathon submissions and the opening, closing ceremonies and live pitches will be streamed on CraftHub's official Facebook page. The exact venue will be shared with offline participants a few weeks before the event. However, please note that only those competitors will be able to join us offline, who will be confirmed by the organiser team via an official confirmation email. For more information about the ways of attendance and information related to the new format, please check the "About the hybrid format" part!
Yes, you can. After you changed your selection in JunctionApp, please notify the organizers about it via hackathon@crafthub.events.
Since there is a limited amount of space at the venue, unfortunately we can not admit everyone. If you get denied, do not worry! You can still participate virtually using our online platforms like Slack or watch the main programs on our Facebook page.
Of course. Hackathon requires not only programming and designers, but also various roles including service planning and project managers. Don’t worry and apply!
Finalists will do a live pitch on Sunday in a previously decided order. Each pitch will be preceded by the team's youtube video and after that they will have 4 minutes to do the pitch. For the pitches, it is strongly suggested to prepare a presentation too with basic informations about the solution. In addition, the audience will have the chance to ask questions after each pitch. Once the teams have presented their idea, the audience will have some time to vote for the team they deem best. The exact method of the voting process can be found at the Game Rules part.
