GAME RULES

Draft submissions

  • For draft submission, you have to create a project in the JunctionApp in the CraftHack event, you can easily save this draft project without any completed description
  • When creating a draft project, it is enough for us if you only give a name to your project and choose the challenge you will work on
  • At the draft submission deadlines we would only like to see how many projects will be submitted on the different challenges

Final submission

To submit your project, please follow these steps:

  1. Create a 2 minute video pitch and upload it to YouTube (The video can have you talking, a live app demo (if you have one), some cool animation, etc... whatever fits best)
  2. Make a GitHub repo
  3. Link the YouTube video and the repo in your submission form

Please, make sure to follow these steps strictly otherwise we will not be able to evaluate your project.

As mentioned above we will have different types of winners by the end of the hackathon. The evaluations will have 2 rounds according to the following:

  1. First round from 10:30 am on Sunday:
    1. Challenge winners will be chosen by partners. Each partner will get a judging sheet filled out with the projects submitted to their challenge. We will have a challenge winner for each challenge. (For the judging criterias please scroll down to the FAQ part)
    2. The three Track winners will be defined by the Gavel algorithm in the JunctionApp. In this evaluation method only teams will be able to vote. (For more information about this algorithm, please scroll down to the FAQ part)
  2. Second round after the Live pitches on Sunday:
    1. The winner of the Audience Award will be chosen by the community which means that anyone can vote for their favorite project (even those who did not participate in the hackathon can vote). The voting will be managed with a poll and available after the pitches in the hackathon official Facebook event. In this evaluation all the teams can participate even then if they didn’t win for a challenge or a track
    2. And last but not least, the Grand winner will be selected from the track and challenge winners. After the live pitches, the voting will open and only registered teams and partners will be able to vote. Votes will be collected in two ways: from teams in JunctionApp by a final voting and from partners via a form

As mentioned above, we will announce different types of winners with precious prizes.

  • The challenge provider partners will provide a prize of 500 € for the teams, they selected as their Challenge winner
  • According to the teams voting via JunctionApp we will announce the Track winners who are going to win a prize of 1500 € (one by one) provided by the Track sponsors
  • The winner of the Audience award will be selected by the audience and will claim the prize of 500 € provided by CraftHub
  • And the grand prize, 2500 € will go to the Grand winner who will be chosen from the track and challenge winners by the teams and the partners. This prize will be also given by CraftHub

You can find information about this at the Game Rules part.

JunctionApp uses an algorithm named Gavel to judge projects. In this pairwise-comparison-based algorithm participants review each other’s projects. The system incorporates a lot of research on mathematical psychology along with fancy math, resulting in a fair and scalable reviewing system. The user is always given two projects to compare, asked to vote for the better one and compare the newer project to the next one (and so forth). This way, one doesn’t have to take in consideration what the absolute perfect, nor what the absolutely worst project would look like. It’s enough to decide the better one of the two that the system suggests. In addition, participants are naturally curious to understand why a certain project has won. Peer reviewing gives them the possibility to have an overlook of other projects and cast their vote for the winners.

The proposals will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

  • 25% - Prototype
  • 20% - Feasibility
  • 20% - Impact/value
  • 20% - Innovativeness
  • 15% - Presentation

Please note that these are the suggested criteria and there may be changes in the percentages or aspects in the different challenges according to the partners' expectations.

As soon as we have the track and challenge winners, we will ask them to prepare for the live pitch. They will have to present their ideas in 4 minutes and after each pitch there will be a quick Q&A session. This part aims to provide a closer insight into these solutions. In the interest of having a fair selection, we only take into consideration the registered teams’ and the partners’ votes since they will have the most relevant opinion and insight into the projects.

  • Teams will have to go to JunctionApp where they will see the finalists and choose their favorite
  • And partners will get a voting form where they also have to give their favorite team’s name

We will announce the grand winner as a summarized result of both of these voting methods.

Yes, if a team selected by the partners as a challenge winner, and the community as a track winner, they will have the chance to also win the grand prize. In addition, since all projects participate in the audience voting, if they collect enough votes from the audience then they can take home the Audience Award too. Overall, it’s more than possible that a team will take home 5,000 €.

The winner of the Audience Award, as its name suggests, is chosen by the audience. Basically, anyone can vote here, whether it’s the long-unseen cousin from France or the kind neighbor next door. In addition, in the audience voting all the teams participate. So if you want to win this prize, then make sure to spread the word on Sunday and share the hackathon with your friends and family.
