CraftHack aftermovie 2023

CraftHack is back for the third time in 2023!
What’s different?

CraftHack is still the companion event of Craft Conference, an intense hybrid hackathon that encourages young, talented tech-enthusiasts to come up with innovative solutions to specific challenges provided by partners for huge prizes.

However, this time CraftHack will be happening simultaneously with Craft Conference at the exact same time and venue! This way offline participants of the 24-hour long hackathon will get the amazing opportunity to hear 70+ top-notch speakers, and present their ideas in front of many potential investors.

What’s our goal?

We are looking for innovative solutions that are realistic and sustainable. During the 24-hour long event you’ll have to work on existing problems defined by our partners. The topics of the hackathon will revolve around AI/ML, fintech, software development and healthcare.

About the hybrid format

CraftHack will mix the benefits of an online hackathon and an offline event. Hybrid format means, that participants can choose how they would like to attend the event. Anyone from around the world can join in online using our online platforms, but you can also choose to attend the in-person event in Budapest.

During your registration on JunctionApp you can select your preferred way of attendance. Select offline or online depending on your preference. Please note, that registering for the offline hackathon does not guarantee your participation at the event in person, because of the limited amount of spaces at the venue! However, even if you are not selected as a confirmed offline participant, you can still take part in the competition online. Online participation does not require confirmation from the organizers

If you select offline participation, you must wait until you get a confirmation email from us with all the needed information regarding the event. In case we are on full house, we will notify you about it! If you do not recieve any email please contact the organizers via Slack.

The hackathon will be organized simultaneously with Craft Conference in the Hungarian Railway Museum (1142 Budapest, Tatai u. 95.). Please note that there won't be proper sleeping opportunities at the place (maybe some bean bags) and for refreshing you will only be able to use the restrooms.

Although CraftHub cannot cover any of your traveling or accommodational expenses, we will hook you up with food during the hackathon, strong internet connection, comfortable tables and seats and a lot of that infallible hackathon spirit!

For having an unforgettable experience do not forget about the most important things to bring with you to the venue, like your laptop, its charger and some change clothes.

In case you'd like to attend the event online, don't worry - you'll count as a full-fledged participant as well! Make sure to join our Slack workspace because this will be your main source of information before and during the hackathon. If you have any questions you can ask it straight from the organizers there.

Game rules

Challenge selection

  • On the first day by 4 pm you have to create a draft project in the JunctionApp in the CraftHack event to indicate which challenge you choose to work on
  • When creating a draft project, it is enough for us if you only give a name to your project and choose the challenge, you do not have to provide any description yet

Final submission

To submit your final project, please follow these steps:

  1. Create a maximum 2 minutes long video pitch and upload it to YouTube (The video can have you talking, a live app demo (if you have one), some cool animation, etc... whatever fits best)
  2. Make a GitHub repo and set your source code public
  3. Link the YouTube video and the repo/code in your submission form
  4. For safety's sake, double check that your project is in a Final status (not Draft) in JunctionApp

Please, make sure to follow these steps strictly otherwise we the jury and the other teams will not be able to evaluate your project.

Challenge winners

Challenge winners will be chosen by partners. Each partner will get a judging sheet filled out with the projects submitted to their challenge. We will have a challenge winner for each challenge. (Find the judging criteria in the FAQ)

Grand winner

Teams can vote for each other’s projects on the JunctionApp with the Gavel algorithm. (For more information about this algorithm, please check out the FAQ) The TOP 8 teams of this voting will be the finalists, who’ll get the chance to present their projects live in 4 minutes each. After the live pitches, partners and teams will get the chance again to vote in JunctionApp for their favourite pitch, and the Grand Winner will be chosen by this final voting."
